Virgin Mary Spotted in Salsa Stain

Virgin Mary manifests herself in salsa sauce

The Virgin Mary appeared to Elvia Alvarez in her kitchen in the form of a salsa sauce stain.

Some may see just a simple stain on the wall, but one East Bakersfield family say their home has been blessed with a miracle. Elvia Alvarez was recently using her blender to make salsa in her kitchen. Some of the salsa splattered onto the wall, creating what Alvarez says is the image of the Blessed Virgin Mary. Since this happened. Alvaraz says it’s a sign that people need to be nicer to each other. Alvarez also says at times there’s been the strong smell of roses in her home though there aren’t any fresh roses nearby her home.

Why the Virgin Mary would manifest herself in the form of a salsa sauce stain is beyond me – perhaps it’s because I’m an atheist and wouldn’t understand these things because I lack faith and conviction. Anyway, Ms. Alvaraz claims that it’s a sign that folks should be nicer to each other, that’s not exactly profound, is it? I mean if Jesus’ mother was going to manifest herself surely she would offer up something a little more useful than “you should all be nice to each other”; why not give us a solution to world hunger, or how to end the war in Afghanistan and Iraq, or what about a solution to climate change and global warming?

If you think that this news story is nothing but a harmless little news filler, think again. Blind faith and stupidity can cause a lot of harm to followers who believe that these stories are true. Last year, a teenage girl by the name of Francesca Zackey convinced a lot of devout catholics that she was being visited by the Virgin Mary. Groups of people would stand outside her home in the hope of being blessed or perhaps being fortunate enough to see the Virgin for themselves. Zackey told people to look into the setting sun to see the Virgin Mary, which they did – the result was that one woman went blind and many others may have damaged their eyesight irreparably by doing something they would not probably do under normal circumstances.

The phenomenon that causes our brains to see images in salsa sauce or other strange places, is called Pareidolia and you can find an excellent explanation of the phenomenon here.
