Nothing pains me more than having to read about how children or animals are abused at the hands of adults who should know better. Nothing angers me more than discovering that those adults are priests and nuns; people who have supposedly given their life to god and who are supposed to be examples of gods love here on Earth. These are supposedly educated adults, adults who know the difference between right and wrong and yet still choose to hurt and abuse the weakest and most vulnerable members of our society, our children.
I am talking about the report released by the Commission to Inquire into Child Abuse; a body charged with investigating abuse in Ireland’s orphanages, schools, and workhouse-style reform schools run by Roman Catholic religious orders. What the Commission found was that thousands of children suffered physical, sexual, and emotional abuse and neglect. More than 800 priests, nuns, and brothers were implicated in the report, however, they will remain nameless. In 2004, the Christian Brothers religious order, which was Ireland’s largest provider of workhouse-style schools for boys, successfully sued the Commission to prevent names from being included in the Commission’s report. None of the people implicated in the report will be prosecuted, which doesn’t surprise me in the least. The church has always covered up and protected abusers in the past, there is no reason to expect it to change now. There are and have been people within the Roman Catholic Church who have spoken out against abuse, but it has always been after the abuse was uncovered. Not one of them has worked actively to oust abusers and have them criminally charged, not a single one.
It’s true that abuse was endemic throughout the whole child welfare system, but, according to the government’s Department of Education..
“the deferential and submissive attitude towards the congregations compromised its – the department of Education – ability to carry out its statutory duty of inspection and monitoring the schools. Furthermore, the religious orders covered up cases of sexual abuse.”
It’s not only those 800 priests, nuns, and brothers that should be held accountable for what happened to those children, but everyone else that took part in the cover up and all those that knew what was going on and yet kept quiet. Their sins are just as bad, if not worse, than the perpetrator’s crimes because they failed to protect those children – instead they chose to protect the abusers and the church.
One question I’m often asked is, where do atheists get their morals from without god or religion? My new answer is this, most certainly not from the same source that those 800 priests and nuns got theirs from.

There is no proof. No criminal prosecutions and no resignations.
This is all rumour and supposition based upon scurrilous accusations made by money grubbing wannabes seeking media attention and the filthy lucre of popular magazines.
These people are so “damaged” that they have to rush out and sell seedy stories and tawdry autobiographies detailed in semi pornographic terms.
God will not tolerate such accusations and these atheistic liars will be punished in Hell for their blasphemous activities. Perhaps Satan will enjoy providing the rape and abuse that they so obviously crave in this life.
